SLNet Guidlines
If you would like to post something on SLnet, please read the following guidelines and please think twice before going ahead.
The guidelines used in determining whether an article will be sent to SLNet subscribers. This moderating process relies heavily on the moderator acting in good faith. It is up to you, the subscriber, to inform the SLNet Administrators (slnet-admin
lacnet.org) if this moderating process is unacceptable.
General spirit of the following guidelines are: news worthiness to Sri Lankans, civility, respect for the fellow human being and the preciousness of life.
Anyone can send articles to be posted on SLNet. They will be distributed to all SLnet members if approved by the moderator. Authors are urged to provide English translations of any words or phrases that are in any other language.
- News Articles: Unedited articles from reputed sources such as mainstream news papers and magazines that can be classified as "news." Articles that are mostly opinion and/or comments are not suitable. SLNet Administrators are mostly responsible for posting these news articles.
- Help Wanted:
Requests for information that can only be obtained from a fellow
Sri Lankan or from someone who has a keen interest in Sri Lankan
affairs. Requesting information that is of no general use to the
SLNet subscribers is strongly discouraged and authors are urged
to use SLNet as only a last resort in requesting help. Authors
are required to submit a summary of received information to SLNet.
Since SLNet is distributed throughout the world, requests that
pertain only to a small geographical area are not acceptable.
Places to look before you ask are:
- Sri Lanka Info Page on LAcNet web server.
- soc.culture.sri-lanka usenet newsgroup.
- General Notices: Same guidelines as Help Wanted above apply. Commercial notices will be posted one time only if it contains information that is of use to the Sri Lankan community.
- Press Releases: Since this type is often used as a propaganda tool, the general rule is not to post them. However, if they contain a substantial amount of information which is not already known and, are free of slogans, they will be distributed (subject to same guidelines in Help Wanted and General Notices above).
- Personal introductions, comments on SLNet articles and flames: Not acceptable.
- Other: Same as Press Releases above
Send your posting intended for SLnet-wide distribution to slnet@slnet.org
