THE WIRED GROUP

Children learn computer skills at a LAcNet-sponsored computer center in Dunuwila.
The Wired Group is dedicated to establishing IT centers in rural and disadvantaged communities. Since the inception of our first information centers in 2001, we have made steady progress in widening our reach and enhancing the distribution of such centers throughout Sri Lanka. This process culminated in successful negotiations to obtain 200 computer systems and other assorted equipment from the World Bank. This equipment has already reached Sri Lanka and we are currently in the process of deploying 20 information centers, spanning 9 districts, in the island based on need based assessments carried out by our members. The 11 centers in operation, and those scheduled to open in the next few months, will play a pivotal role in our long term strategy of enhancing and uplifting the social conditions of disadvantaged groups in Sri Lanka.
