Look@ Magazine: issue 1a

The Principal's Message

It gives me great pleasure to say congratulations and write this message to Look@, the very first magazine of the school computer unit.

This is an admirable achievement as our resources are limited. Most of our students attend school amidst many hardships and travel a considerable distance from remote parts of the Anuradhapura district, The war and the very low income levels in this region have deprived students access to various facilities that are available to students in other parts of the country. A good education is their only chance to break the poverty cycle.

Acquiring computer literacy is a must in this new world but a computer is a rarely seen wonder box in this part of the country. To attend a private computer class and use an out-dated computer, a child will need to part with a considerable amount of his parents hard earned money. The charges at the few private computer institutions in this district are exorbitant.

Our students here are fortunate to have access to a small computer centre with Internet access due to the generosity of the Lanka Academic Network (LAcNet). Although we have only five computers for the use of four thousand students, the students have produced something praiseworthy. I wish the Look@ magazine all the best and hope you will work together to make optimum use of the computer facilities.
