COMPUTER LAB OPENED ON JAN. 25, 2003. Read the press release and Chuli De Silva's (LAcNet president 2002-2003) report on the opening.

LAcNet is happy to report that the computer lab opening was a success. In addition to approximately 20 children and their mothers, in attendance were representatives from the Malay Association Rupee Fund and LAcNet.

Brief history of project

The project leader, Mr. Teitelbaum, developed the project in collaboration with the teacher-in-charge Mrs. Ratnavale. Equipment donated in the US were collected and shipped in May 2001; the shipment was accepted by the project teacher-in-charge. Unfortunately, about this time, the school building sustained damage during restoration of local commercial sewer pipes. The school was forced to postpone commissioning the equipment. The contractors completed repairs at the end of 2002. The project leader, Teitelbaum, visited Colombo early in 2003 to coordinate the installation. January was a busy period for Teitelbaum, Ratnavale, the other teachers and students. The electrical power supplies required upgrades and the computer equipment needed theft protection before work on installing the systems. After much hard work the systems are now available for the students to use.
